How fast will the SPI inflate my wings?

In about two seconds if you are using a standard set of wings. If you have high capacity wings, it will take about 5 seconds.

Isn't that a little too fast?

No. You should not "hammer" on the Inflator button, just put in a short burst of gas. The SPI-12 and 16 are designed to be used by divers who are diving with double tanks, stage bottle(s), and heavy equipment. When doing a deep dive, the SPI-12 and SPI-16 enable you to quickly stop at the correct depth without exceeding it.
